Uttrakhand Chardham Yatra is one of the most holy yatra in India, it is also known as chhota char dham. It covers four holy shrines of Uttarakhand Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath.

History of Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra

Char Dham yatra was started by Pandvas after mahabharta, after killing their brothers in mahabharta, they wanted to get rid of their sins. So, Shri Krishna suggested them to worship lord shiva and go for chardham yatra.

Opening Dates of Uttarakhand Chardham Yatra 2026

Yamunotri Temple Kapat opening date is 19th April 2026.
Gangotri Temple Kapat opening date is 19th April 2026.
Kedarnath Temple Kapat opening date is 25th May 2026(Tentative).
Badrinath Temple Kapat opening date is 27th May 2026(Tentative).

Panch Prayag

Prayag means sangam (confluence) of two rivers, while going to badrinath there are five prayags, called as panch prayag. which pilgrims can see.

Dev prayag, it is a sangam point of two holy rivers Alaknanda & Bhagirathi. This confluence becomes the birthplace of holy river Ganga, the origin point of river Ganga.

Rudra prayag, it is a sangam point of two holy rivers Alaknanda & Mandakini.Lord Rudranath(shiva) Temple is situated at the sangam point.

Karan prayag,it is a sangam point of two holy rivers Alaknanda & Pindar. Karnaprayag is the place where it is believed by many to be the place where Danveer Karna of the Mahabharata, was to have worshipped the Sun God.

Nand prayag, it is a sangam point of two holy rivers Alaknanda & Nandakini. There is a Nand temple made by king Nanda at the sangam point of rivers.

Vishnu prayag, it is a sangam point of two holy rivers Alaknanda & Dhauliganga. It is believed tha sage Narad meditated here, then God Vishnu appeared here. it is close to lake 'kag bhusandi'.

Panch Kedar

Panch Kedar refers to five holy lord shiva temples situated in the garhwal region of uttarakhand

Kedarnath, it is dedicated to lord shiva, locted at the height of 3580m above the sea level, it is the first shrine to visit in uttarakhand Chardham Yatra 2022

Madhya maheshwar, it is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Garhwal region, Uttarakhand, India. it is the Second temple to be visited in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit.

Tungnath, it is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is the highest of the five Panch Kedar temples located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand

Rudranath, it is dedicated to god Shiva. it is the fourth temple to be visited in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit,

Kalpeshwar, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India. The temple’s ancient legend linked to the Pandavas, heroes of epic Mahabharata eminence is the fifth temple of the Panch Kedars
